Job Purpose:
The ECD Assistant Practitioner plays a vital role in supporting the holistic growth and development of young children within a structured educational setting. This role involves assisting in planning and delivering stimulating learning experiences, supporting administration duties, and promoting a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment in line with the Centre’s developmental goals and policies.
Key Responsibilities For The Early Childhood Development (ECD) Assistant
1. Programme Development & Implementation:

Assist in the development and execution of daily learning programmes that cater to children’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development

Support in setting up a child-friendly and engaging learning environment

Participate in organizing and facilitating educational trips and outings, ensuring parental consent is secured
2. Administration:
-
Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions handled
-
Keep an updated, well-organized filing system for learner records and attendance
-
Complete all registers, reports, and documentation as per Centre policy and early learning standards
3. Communication & Stakeholder Engagement:
-
Address and escalate parent concerns in a sensitive and timely manner

Foster teamwork and mutual respect among colleagues
-
Build and maintain positive relationships with parents, caregivers, and external stakeholders
4. Health & Safety:
-
Conduct regular health and safety checks in classrooms and play areas
-
Record and report any incidents or injuries using approved documentation
-
Ensure daily sanitation protocols are followed, including disinfecting surfaces, promoting hygiene (hand washing, mask-wearing), and enforcing social distancing
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
-
Matric (Grade 12)
-
Relevant ECD Qualification (minimum NQF Level 4)

At least 2 years of experience in an early childhood education or childcare environment
Required Skills:

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Ability to multitask and manage workload effectively

High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation

Strong organizational and time-management abilities

Capable of working independently and collaboratively

Proficient in at least two languages
