Grain Field Chickens is a prominent player in South Africa’s integrated broiler industry. Based in the peaceful town of Reitz in the North Eastern Free State, we provide a professional and rewarding working environment in the countryside. We are currently seeking an experienced Assistant Artisan to support our qualified technicians in maintaining and repairing company vehicles.
Job Purpose:
The purpose of this role is to assist a qualified artisan in performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on company vehicles. The ideal candidate will work both independently and as part of a team to ensure optimal vehicle performance and uptime, following predefined work standards and safety protocols.
Minimum Requirements for the Grain Field Chickens Assistant Artisan

Educational Qualification: Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 equivalent.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience as an Assistant Artisan.

Technical Knowledge: Sound understanding of medium to heavy haulage vehicle engines and components.

Licensing: Code 8 Driver’s License is required; Code 14 is advantageous.

Must be physically fit, self-driven, and capable of working under pressure without supervision.

Willingness to work long hours, including weekends when required.
Key Responsibilities:

Assist with vehicle inspections, testing, and fault diagnosis.

Perform or support in repairing malfunctions using existing or replacement parts.

Conduct follow-up testing to confirm repairs are effective.

Complete routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, battery checks, lubrication, and inspections.

Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs for compliance and invoicing purposes.

Identify potential mechanical problems during maintenance and escalate appropriately.

Perform component replacements, safety adjustments, and ensure all vehicle safety standards are met.

Support workshop activities during breakdowns and field service calls.

Adhere to all SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality) protocols and company policies.

Maintain cleanliness and safety of equipment, tools, and work areas.
