Minimum Qualifications and Skills

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

 

Grade 12 (Matric) or NQF Level 4 equivalent.

Basic Rigging Course Certification (Essential).

Qualification in Engineering Studies (Advantageous).

Good English communication skills (written and verbal).

Understanding of safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols.

Work Experience Requirements

At least 1 year of experience in a mining environment.

Experience in using basic hand tools and power tools, including grinders and cutting equipment.

Experience in mechanical maintenance and repairs.

Key Responsibilities for the Ivanhoe Mines Artisan Assistant Fitter

As a Mechanical Assistant, your duties will include:

 

Assisting with mechanical maintenance and repair tasks as per company procedures and quality standards.

Operating overhead cranes safely within their certified capacity.

Lifting and handling equipment safely, up to a maximum load of 3 tons.

Following lockout procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

Using and maintaining hand-held tools for basic mechanical work.

Keeping all tools and equipment clean and in good working condition, reporting defects to the Supervisor.

Ensuring high housekeeping standards are maintained in the work area.

Assisting with daily, weekly, and monthly tool inspections.

Adhering to M&RC’s safety policies, procedures, and operational standards.

Identifying and mitigating risks proactively and reporting concerns immediately.

Practicing effective self-management and aligning with M&RC’s core values.
