 Purpose of the Job

We are looking for a qualified Boilermaker to join our operations team in Boksburg, responsible for fabrication and installation of metal products, with a key focus on locomotive component welding. You will use advanced welding techniques to support efficient production and ensure safety and quality compliance.

 Key Responsibilities For The Alstom Artisan Boilermaker Opportunity

• Fabricate and install locomotive components according to approved welding procedures

• Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications

• Set up, operate, and maintain welding machines and hand tools

• Identify, troubleshoot, and repair welding defects

• Perform precise butt welds and fillet welds in multiple positions

• Conduct assembly and component inspections prior to welding procedures

• Follow Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHACT) guidelines

• Maintain a clean and organized work environment

• Mentor apprentices and semi-skilled workers to ensure safe and high-quality output

• Assist in ad hoc operational duties to support the production team

 Minimum Educational Requirements

• Grade 12 / N3 Certificate (essential)

• Boilermaker Trade Qualification (Red Seal or equivalent)

 Experience Required

• Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a similar Boilermaker or welding technician role

• Proven expertise in metal fabrication, welding, and installation in an industrial setting

 Skills & Competencies

• Strong communication skills (verbal and written)

• Excellent problem-solving ability

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

• Skilled in identifying and applying welding symbols

• Precision welding using butt weld and fillet weld techniques

• Knowledge of health and safety regulations (OSHACT)

• Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure

• Team player with the ability to work independently when required
