Primary Purpose of the Job
We are seeking a dedicated and hands-on Fitter Assistant to join our maintenance team. The primary responsibility of this role is to support the repair, servicing, and preventative maintenance of press machinery in order to meet production schedules and uphold both customer expectations and company quality standards.

Assist in diagnosing faults and performing maintenance and repairs on press machinery under the guidance of qualified Fitters.

Carry out preventative maintenance tasks according to the job cards and maintenance schedule.

Assist in disassembling, inspecting, repairing, and reassembling machinery components.

Ensure all maintenance and repair activities are carried out in accordance with company procedures, safety standards, and quality systems.

Maintain accurate records of completed work by submitting detailed feedback on time sheets.

Participate in departmental performance reviews and mini-business activities as required.

Support the implementation and compliance of SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality) procedures and contribute to a safe working environment.

Operate power tools, welding equipment, and general mechanical tools safely and efficiently under supervision.
Required Knowledge & Skills

Basic understanding of press machinery operation and maintenance

Knowledge of technical and mechanical techniques used in fitting

Experience with basic welding

Understanding of manufacturing processes in an automotive production environment

Familiarity with quality management systems and their importance

Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn

Effective communication and teamwork abilities
Minimum Requirements
-
Grade 12 / Matric
-
Minimum 2 years of experience as a Fitter Assistant in an automotive or heavy machinery environment

Basic understanding of mechanical tools and workshop safety
-
Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and in high-pressure environments when required
