Purpose of the Position
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Electrical Technician to join our Facilities team at North-West University (NWU). In this role, your main responsibility will be to keep all electrical equipment, including medium voltage (MV)and low voltage (LV) systems, in a safe and working condition. This includes work done in hostels and across campus facilities.
You will also make sure that all maintenance and repairs follow legal safety standards, especially SANS 10142 and other electrical regulations. Your work will directly support NWU’s academic and operational activities by helping maintain a reliable, safe electrical infrastructure.
Main Responsibilities

Repair and maintain electrical equipment according to SANS 10142.

Use the Planon maintenance system to manage job cards and requests.

Handle emergency maintenance issues as they arise.

Oversee contractor work, verify quality, and approve invoices.

Ensure all work is planned, prioritised, and aligned with NWU’s core needs.
What You Need to Succeed
Technical Skills

Good at fault reporting and communication.

Able to follow schedules and meet intermediate goals.

Comfortable using digital tools and systems (like electronic job cards).

Solid knowledge of how campus infrastructure works.

Confident making decisions under pressure and within regulations.
Personal Attributes

Can work well with little supervision.

Proactive and able to solve problems quickly.

Positive team player with strong social and interpersonal skills.
Minimum Requirements
-
Electrical Trade Certificate (NQF Level 4).
-
Five years of technical experience in electrical maintenance.

Five years of planned maintenance experience.
Preferred Qualifications
-
National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (NQF Level 6) is a plus.
Remuneration
Your total annual salary will be based on your experience and qualifications. NWU offers competitive packages in line with internal policies and grading levels.
