Job Overview

We are seeking a qualified Red Seal Electrical & Mechanical Technician to join our team and support the efficient maintenance and operation of high-speed packaging machinery and plant equipment. This role is essential in maintaining operational excellence, reducing downtime, and improving equipment performance in a factory environment. The ideal candidate will have both electrical and mechanical expertise, with experience in PLC systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and packaging automation.

Primary Responsibilities For The Artisan Electricians Jobs at Premier 

• Execute all electrical and mechanical maintenance tasks on packaging and milling equipment.

• Respond to equipment breakdowns promptly to minimize production downtime.

• Perform planned preventative maintenance and routine inspections (e.g., infrared scanning, bearing temperature checks).

• Interpret and work from detailed electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.

• Install and commission new machines and automated packaging lines.

• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, PPE usage, and factory work instructions.

• Accurately log all work performed, parts used, and time data in the maintenance management system.

• Maintain electrical panels, power factor systems, and ensure optimal operation of all packaging equipment.

• Participate in root cause analysis and propose continuous improvement measures.

• Perform shaft alignments, motor overhauls, and installation of pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.

• Ensure housekeeping and cleanliness in all areas of responsibility.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric (Grade 12).

• Trade Tested Electrician (Red Seal – Dept. of Labour).

• Minimum N3 Certificate in Electrical Engineering.

• Valid driver’s license (if travel is required).

Preferred Experience

• 5-7 years of hands-on experience in a food manufacturing or milling environment.

• Proven experience with packaging machines, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and SCADA systems.

• Strong background in mechanical repairs, heavy machinery installation, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.

• Previous exposure to high-speed manufacturing lines is highly advantageous.

• Knowledge of VFDs, machine automation, and electrical diagnostics.

Working Conditions

• Factory environment with heat, noise, and flour dust exposure.

• Overtime, weekend, and public holiday work may be required.

• Rotational standby shifts apply.

• Occasional travel and overnight stays may be necessary.
