South Deep Gold Mine is one of South Africa’s leading gold mining operations, with a strong commitment to skills development, youth empowerment, and transformation within surrounding communities. The mine continues to invest heavily in structured training programmes aimed at developing qualified artisans who can contribute meaningfully to the mining and engineering industry.
Through its Engineering Learnership Programme, South Deep Gold Mine provides unemployed youth from designated host communities with an opportunity to gain both theoretical knowledge and practical workplace experience. The programme is designed to develop learners into fully qualified artisans in the trade of Boilermaking / Plating.
This initiative is aligned with the requirements of the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) and ensures that all learners receive nationally recognised, industry-relevant training that prepares them for long-term employment in the technical and mining sectors.
The Engineering Learnership Programme is a structured training initiative that combines institutional learning with hands-on workplace exposure in a real mining environment. Learners will gain valuable experience under the supervision of qualified artisans and technical mentors.
