The City of Ekurhuleni is offering a Mechanical Engineering Internship for unemployed South African citizens residing in Ekurhuleni. This six-month opportunity is ideal for candidates with a basic mechanical background who want to gain hands-on workshop experience, develop technical skills, and work alongside experienced artisans and mechanics.

Minimum Requirements For The City of Ekurhuleni Mechanical Assistant

  • Grade 10 or N2 in Mechanical Engineering

  • Must be a South African citizen

  • Resident of Ekurhuleni (specify ward number in application)

  • Unemployed at the time of application

  • Basic mechanical background in a workshop environment

  • Physically fit and willing to perform manual labour

  • Valid driver’s license (advantageous)

  • Not currently participating in the CoE Job Creation programme

Key Responsibilities For The City of Ekurhuleni Mechanical Assistant

  • Assist mechanics and artisans with mechanical repairs, servicing, and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, pumps, and tools

  • Prepare work areas by cleaning and arranging tools, equipment, and parts

  • Maintain workshop cleanliness and ensure work areas are safe and organized

  • Operate hand tools and basic mechanical equipment

  • Transport tools, parts, and equipment as required

  • Assist with inspecting and testing mechanical systems for faults

  • Report damaged tools, faulty equipment, or safety hazards to the supervisor or artisan

  • Comply with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards and wear prescribed PPE at all times

  • Complete basic job cards or task checklists as required

  • Assist with compiling daily, weekly, and monthly reports

  • Follow instructions from supervisors and demonstrate willingness to learn
