 About the Opportunity

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), in collaboration with MerSETA, invites applications from qualified students for its Work Integrated Learning (WIL) programme. This structured experiential training programme is specifically designed for students pursuing National Diplomas who require practical experience to complete their qualifications.

The WIL programme aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical industry experience, improving employability and preparing students for real-world challenges. This opportunity is located in Pretoria and covers a broad spectrum of Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) disciplines.


 Fields of Study

Students in the following fields may apply:

  • Chemical Engineering

  • Civil Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Electrical & Electronic Engineering

  • Mechatronics

  • Computer Science

  • Data Science

  • Chemistry & Analytical Chemistry

  • Physics

  • Industrial Engineering

  • Metallurgical Engineering

  • Chemical Technology

  • Bio-Engineering

  • Computer Engineering

  • Aeronautical Engineering

  • Software Engineering


 Minimum Requirements 

  • Must be a South African citizen

  • Enrolled full-time at a University of Technology in one of the fields listed above

  • Must have completed all theoretical modules and be in need of practical experience to obtain the National Diploma


 Required Documents

Applicants must submit:

  • A certified copy of their South African ID

  • A comprehensive CV

  • Latest academic transcript

  • Proof of registration at a University of Technology

  • A letter from the institution confirming the requirement for practical training
