Job Description
We are seeking a talented Apprentice – Engine Workshop Technician to join our team in Vereeniging, New Vaal Mine, South Africa, specializing in engine service and repair within our Distribution Business Segment.
As an Apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience in workshop operations while developing technical expertise in diesel engines, power generators, and mechanical systems. This role is designed for individuals who want to build a strong foundation in mechanical engineering, engine maintenance, and diagnostics.
Key Responsibilities For The Cummins Onsite Technician ApprenticeÂ

Support Workshop Operations: Assist in daily workshop activities to ensure smooth and efficient processes.

Maintain Cleanliness & Safety: Clean, inspect, and disassemble components to uphold a safe, organized environment.

Perform Repairs: Learn and apply Standard Repair Times (SRTs) and technical procedures to carry out basic repairs and maintenance.

Documentation: Assist with accurate record-keeping, including work completed forms and time sheets.

Develop Technical Skills: Participate in training aligned with business needs to enhance technical knowledge and capabilities.

Tool & Equipment Care: Maintain tools and equipment for reliability and longevity.

Health & Safety Compliance: Follow Health, Safety & Environmental policies to maintain a safe workplace.

Proactive Reporting: Report issues or incidents to supervisors to support continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience

Education:
-
Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Science.

Nated Certificates (N3–N6) in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (e.g., Diesel Trade Theory, Mechanotechnics, Power Machines).

OR NCV Level 4 qualification in Engineering from a TVET college.

Experience (advantageous): Exposure to mechanical or electrical maintenance, engine repairs, or technical workshop environments.

Requirements:

Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.

Knowledge of Cummins engines or similar mechanical systems (preferred).

Ability to use diagnostic equipment and follow repair procedures.

Valid driver’s license.

Willingness to work shifts and overtime as required.
