Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, repairing, and overhauling mechanical components and plant equipment. This includes performing routine inspections, scheduled preventive maintenance, and operating machinery in a safe and compliant manner to ensure optimal plant performance and adherence to safety regulations.

Minimum Requirements For The Fitter and Turner Jobs at Rand Water

• Grade 12 / N3 Certificate

• Trade Certificate in Fitting and Turning (Red Seal)

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in pump maintenance

• Proven experience with laser alignment of motors, couplings, bearings, and rotating equipment

• Solid machining background including lathe, milling, and grinding work

• Valid Code EB Driver’s License

• Ability to pass Rand Water’s K53 driving assessment

Primary Responsibilities

• Daily and routine maintenance of mechanical and auxiliary plant equipment

• Perform scheduled overhauls on pumps, gearboxes, motors, etc.

• Precision machining using milling, grinding, and turning machines

• Safety checks and equipment inspections

• Rigging, welding, and flame cutting tasks

• Completion of job cards, timesheets, and maintenance reports

• Respond to unplanned breakdowns and perform standby duties

• Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant working environment

Key Knowledge and Skills

• Sound understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act)

• Ability to read and interpret technical and mechanical drawings

• Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills

• Good communication and teamwork abilities

• Knowledge of industrial maintenance best practices
