Job Purpose

We are seeking a highly skilled and qualified Electrician (Night Shift) to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and servicing underground electrical systems and ensuring optimal equipment performance in a challenging mining environment. The role demands hands-on electrical fault-finding, medium-voltage switching, and detailed troubleshooting across a variety of underground electrical installations.

 Minimum Requirements For The Gold 1 Artisan Electrician Job Opportunity

• Educational Qualification: Grade 11 or equivalent

• Trade Certificate: Electrical Trade Test (preferably Section 13 or Section 26D)

• Certification: Valid Medium Voltage Electrical Switching Certificate (essential)

• Experience: Minimum 5 years post-trade experience, preferably with underground electrical installations and fault-finding

• Language: Proficient in English and at least one additional official South African language

• License: Valid South African Code 8 or 10 Driver’s License (essential)

• Citizenship: South African Citizen with a clear criminal record

• Advantageous:

  • Experience in HT (High Tension) electrical systems

  • Strong knowledge of electrical voltages, lockout procedures, and underground distribution systems

 Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed fault-finding and troubleshooting of underground electrical systems.

• Conduct routine and scheduled maintenance of electrical components, including transformers, switchgear, cables, and distribution boards.

• Ensure full compliance with MHSA (Mine Health and Safety Act) and company-specific electrical safety standards.

• Participate in project planning and pre-work sketches, estimate costs, and submit reports to supervisors.

• Apply independent judgment and initiative in analyzing and resolving complex technical problems.

• Ensure quality control and engineering best practices are maintained at all times.

• Perform medium-voltage switching in accordance with certification and operational protocols.

• Maintain area of responsibility following prescribed standard procedures and documentation.
