Job Purpose

We are looking for a highly motivated Technical Assistant to support our field technicians in the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of high-speed fibre optic networks and wireless broadband systems. The role offers hands-on experience in South Africa’s growing telecommunications sector and is ideal for candidates interested in fibre installations, WiFi deployment, and network cabling.

Key Performance Areas

 Site Surveys

• Assist with signal scans and throughput tests at high sites.

• Capture clear site photos, including proposed locations for CPE brackets, cable routing, power plugs, PoE injectors, and routers.

 Installation Tasks

• Install brackets, cable hooks, and conduit based on technician guidance.

• Pull and secure Ethernet and fibre optic cables neatly and efficiently.

• Ensure proper cable management and a clean job site post-installation.

 Call-Out Repairs & Maintenance

• Provide assistance during fault finding and customer support site visits.

• Help identify potential risks such as tree obstructions or antenna misalignment.

• Maintain detailed before/after photographic documentation.

 CPE Recovery & Equipment Removal

• Retrieve customer-premises equipment (CPE) and ensure safe transport.

• Clean the site thoroughly post-removal.

 Vehicle & Tool Maintenance

• Organize all tools, cable reels, consumables, and network components in the service vehicle.

• Load daily stock and ensure spare parts and consumables are replenished.

Candidate Requirements For The Herotel Technical Assistant Vacancy 

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

• Matric/Grade 12 (preferred)

• Valid Driver’s License – Essential

• 1–2 years’ experience in a technical or field service role (advantageous)

• Hands-on experience with network cabling, power tools, or wireless antenna mounting is highly beneficial.

Skills & Attributes:

• Basic knowledge of computer networking, Wi-Fi routers, PoE switches, and fibre optic hardware

• Ability to use hand and power tools safely

• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

• Excellent communication and ability to follow technical instructions

• Must be able to work at heights, in tight spaces, and in all weather conditions

• Physically fit, reliable, and safety-conscious

• Able to work independently or as part of a team

• Willing to work overtime, weekends, and public holidays if required
