We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Building Maintenance Assistant to support general maintenance tasks in a healthcare environment. The role is ideal for individuals with technical aptitude and an interest in building repairs, facility upkeep, and basic maintenance operations.

Your primary responsibility is to perform routine building maintenance, ensure all hospital infrastructure and equipment are safe and fully functional, and support the Technical Department in achieving operational excellence.


 Key Responsibilities For The Mediclinic 1 Artisan Assistant Position

  • Carry out general technical repair work and maintenance within hospital premises

  • Support routine inspections and identify potential hazards or breakdowns

  • Maintain health, safety, and environmental standards (OHS & ISO compliance)

  • Perform administrative tasks related to maintenance reports and record-keeping

  • Assist with preventative maintenance and asset care planning

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal departments and clients


 Minimum Requirements

Essential Education:

  • Grade 10 certificate or equivalent technical vocational qualification

Desired Education:

  • Grade 12 / Matric

Essential Certification:

  • None

Desired Certification:

  • Valid Code B Driver’s Licence (advantageous)


 Experience Requirements

  • No experience required, but technical aptitude and willingness to learn is essential

  • 1 year of hands-on building maintenance experience will be an added advantage


 Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of general repairs and facility maintenance

  • Familiarity with building systems (e.g. plumbing, carpentry, painting, basic electrical)

  • Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety regulations (OHS)

  • Experience with or ability to learn Planned Maintenance Systems

  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
