Job Purpose

The Millwright Apprentice will support the maintenance, installation, and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment under the guidance of experienced artisans and technicians. This role is designed to provide hands-on practical experience and knowledge necessary to develop into a fully competent Millwright.


Key Responsibilities For The Phakisa Holdings 2025 Millwright Apprentice

  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.

  • Support qualified Millwrights and Technicians in troubleshooting and resolving equipment breakdowns.

  • Operate basic workshop machinery and hand tools under supervision.

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions.

  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks and equipment inspections.

  • Keep accurate records of work performed, parts used, and maintenance activities.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop environment.

  • Attend training sessions (both theoretical and practical) as required by the apprenticeship programme.

  • Adhere to all company safety, health, and environmental policies.


Qualifications & Experience

  • N2/N3 Certificate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (minimum requirement).

  • Matric with Mathematics and Science (advantageous).

  • Previous exposure to a workshop or industrial environment (preferred).

  • For Technician-level roles: Trade Test Millwright or equivalent qualification with relevant hands-on experience.
