Job Purpose

The purpose of this apprenticeship is to provide structured technical training and hands-on experience. The apprentice will support production by assisting in mechanical and electrical maintenance, ensuring machines and equipment are maintained, repaired, and operating efficiently. Successful completion of the program will result in a nationally recognized trade qualification.

Key Responsibilities For The RCL Foods Millwright Apprenticeship Opportunity

• Participate in multi-disciplinary training rotations across factory sections during both operational and off-crop periods (approx. 29 weeks annually)

• Attend institutional training blocks and complete annual Mini Trade Tests and a final Trade Test

• Gain hands-on experience working with conveyor systems, bearings, mechanical tools, and production line machinery

• Assist in diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical breakdowns

• Conduct daily preventative maintenance inspections and report defects

• Interpret complex engineering drawings

• Complete job cards and ensure accurate maintenance records

• Adhere to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards at all times

• Collaborate with experienced artisans and technicians for troubleshooting and project work

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)

• Minimum N3 qualification, preferably N4–N6

• Subjects must include:

  • Mathematics

  • Engineering Science

  • Industrial Electronics

  • Electrical Trade Theory / Electrical Technology

  • Fitting & Machining / Mechanical Technology

• Proof of institutional training (college or trade school) is essential

• Understanding of safety legislation and technical repair processes

• Ability to work with hand tools and read technical drawings
