Key Purpose of the Role

The primary purpose of this role is to provide laboratory support to the production value chain by performing quality checks, conducting specialized analyses, and ensuring beer and packaging meet SAB quality standards. The successful candidate will work closely with production teams, providing technical expertise to maintain and improve product quality.


Key Roles & Responsibilities For The SAB 2026 In Service Trainee

Quality Analysis & Testing

  • Perform specialized quality analyses beyond the scope of shift-based teams.

  • Record and maintain analysis results in the appropriate information systems.

  • Communicate test results to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner.

  • Analyze data to identify quality problems and improvement opportunities.

Technical Support & Calibration

  • Assist shift-based teams in executing quality analyses as required.

  • Calibrate specialist laboratory equipment and provide calibration assistance to production teams.

  • Conduct regular audits of calibration procedures and initiate corrective actions where necessary.

Quality Audits & Compliance

  • Conduct quality audits, complete relevant documentation, and communicate findings.

  • Review analysis procedures performed by shift teams, identifying training needs and operational issues.

  • Ensure compliance with SAB quality, food safety, and regulatory standards.

Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

  • Support production teams in problem-solving activities, acting as a functional expert.

  • Participate in FFA (Frontline Focused Activities) sessions, ensuring learnings are incorporated into lab procedures.

  • Carry out specialized analyses to support continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization projects.

  • Take part in regional and divisional process optimization initiatives.

Training & Development

  • Assist in training needs analysis for shift-based teams.

  • Contribute to the development of training materials related to quality analysis.

  • Participate in training sessions for production teams on quality testing procedures.

Operational & Administrative Tasks

  • Manage stock control of test consumables.

  • Archive data effectively for future reference and audits.

  • Plan and prioritize laboratory work to ensure operational efficiency.


Profile & Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric).

  • Currently studying towards an N Diploma in Food Technology or Microbiology (3rd Year Student).

  • Willing to complete In-Service / Experiential Training in industry.

  • Strong data management and record-keeping skills.

  • Ability to manage laboratory consumable stocks.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
