The Role

We are looking for a dedicated Artisan Assistant to support our team in performing effective maintenance and attending to breakdowns for Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology (SMRT) clients. This role is essential for ensuring the smooth operation of machinery and equipment through hands-on assistance, inspections, and workshop support.

Key Performance Areas For the Sandvik Mining Artisan Assistant 

• Assist artisans with service, maintenance, and breakdown-related tasks.

• Perform visual inspections of machines and report any irregularities.

• Maintain cleanliness of the workshop, tools, and equipment.

• Follow workshop maps and operational guidelines.

• Check wrapping, hoses, and machine components for wear or damage.

• Relay messages between departments and provide feedback to artisans on machine conditions.

• Comply with the SMRT SHEQ management system, objectives, and targets.

• Use the correct tools and equipment for all assigned tasks.

• Identify and report hazardous conditions or unsafe acts.

• Participate in incident and accident investigations.

• Take technical readings and assist with both scheduled and unplanned maintenance and breakdowns.

Your Profile

• Grade 12 / N3 Technical Qualification or Equivalent.

• Computer literacy (proficient in Excel, graphs, and charts).

• English proficiency (written and verbal).

• First Aid Level 1 certification (advantageous).

• Experience working in a manufacturing workshop environment.

• Knowledge of mechanised mining equipment (advantageous).

• Physically and medically fit to work in a workshop or underground environment.

• Strong teamwork and communication skills with a willingness to collaborate effectively.
