South Deep Gold Mine is inviting aspiring employees and prospective applicants from within our Host Communities to apply for the Learner Miner Learnership Programme.

This opportunity is aimed at individuals who are passionate about pursuing a career in mining and who meet the qualifying criteria to be considered part of our Host Communities.

Who Qualifies as a Host Community Applicant?

To be considered, applicants must meet one of the following conditions:

• Be a current resident of one of the Host Communities:
  Bekkersdal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein, or Jachtfontein
  OR

• Have matriculated (passed Grade 12) from a school located in any of the Host Communities listed above.

Programme Overview

This structured learnership provides practical, work-based training in a mining environment. It is designed to help learners develop the skills and experience needed to be employable upon successful completion of the programme.

Minimum Requirements For The South Deep Gold Mine Learnership

• Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or N3 qualification (with two languages passed)

• At least 2 years’ experience in a mining operation

• Must be medically fit for duty, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre

• Must pass a Heat Tolerance Screening Test and any additional assessments required to determine suitability

Key Competencies & Expectations

• Strict adherence to mine health and safety regulations

• Complete technical training as outlined by the MQA/DMRE

• Maintain consistent performance across scheduled evaluation cycles

• Take ownership of personal development and actively engage in feedback sessions

• Collaborate with HRD and technical teams for guidance and support

• Follow company policies, conditions of employment, and the code of conduct

• Exhibit strong teamwork and communication skills

• Must be proficient in English (oral and written)
