About the Role

South32 is seeking a qualified and experienced Auto Electrician to join our dynamic team in a full-time permanent position. This role is critical in supporting underground mining operations by ensuring all mobile and fixed electrical equipment is installed, repaired, and maintained efficiently, safely, and on schedule.

You will play a key role in conducting diagnostics, performing technical installations, and maintaining safety and functionality of mining equipment and systems.

Key Responsibilities For The South32 Artisan Electrician Vacancy

• Carry out electrical diagnostics, installations, and repairs on underground mining equipment.

• Read and interpret hydraulic and electrical diagrams for planned and predictive maintenance.

• Safely access and inspect equipment to perform routine and corrective maintenance.

• Conduct safety inspections, risk assessments, and maintain compliance with health and safety protocols.

• Maintain cleanliness and order at the worksite to ensure safe operations.

• Oversee upkeep and correct usage of tools, maintenance equipment, and spare parts.

• Troubleshoot and resolve breakdowns to minimize operational downtime.

Requirements: Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

• Grade 12 / Matric Certificate

• N2 Technical Certificate

• Trade Test Certificate – Auto Electrician (Red Seal)

• Valid Driver’s License

Essential Experience:

• At least 2 years’ hands-on experience working on underground mining equipment.

• Experience with equipment such as:

  • CAT R1600/R1700 Loaders

  • CAT AD30 Trucks

  • Fermel Marveriks

  • Atlas Copco 282 Rocket Boomer & 282s

  • Atlas Copco 235H Boltecs

  • Epiroc Boomer S2

• Strong fault-finding and repair skills on harnesses and electrical systems.

• Familiarity with SAP, CAT ET, and SIS software is an advantage.
