 Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Electrical Maintenance Assistant to support ongoing maintenance and repair operations at our APB & DFC Campuses. The successful candidate will perform a range of electrical and general maintenance tasks under supervision, contributing to a safe and fully functional learning environment.

Note: Additional duties may be assigned as required by management.


 Key Responsibilities For The UJ X2 General Electrical Assistants 

  • Respond to and action electrical maintenance call-outs across campus buildings and facilities.

  • Inspect reported faults and determine appropriate methods to install, test, repair, or modify electrical systems.

  • Perform in-house repairs to meet turnaround targets; assist in monitoring contractors for outsourced work.

  • Communicate repair updates, timeframes, and any ongoing issues to the Supervisor: Electrical.

  • Coordinate necessary permits (e.g., hot works permits, service shutdowns) in collaboration with users and safety departments.

  • Monitor, repair, and maintain all electrical infrastructure and systems.

  • Ensure maintenance activities are signed off and recorded in accordance with SOPs.

  • Maintain accurate logs of all electrical repair work.

  • Monitor inventory of electrical materials, tools, and equipment.

  • Support artisans with daily technical tasks and assist in workshop upkeep.

  • Follow procedural instructions and promptly report defects or safety concerns to supervisors.

  • Operate hoists, cranes, and other machinery as required.

  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment within the workshop.


 Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Grade 10 or NQF Level 2

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year job-related experience

  • Knowledge: Understanding of institutional policies, rules, and electrical systems

  • Basic knowledge and experience in electrical repair and maintenance

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently

  • Active listener and problem-solver


 Additional Notes

  • May be required to work over weekends

  • Intercampus travel may be required
