We are seeking a qualified and experienced Artisan Turner to join our Machine Shop team and contribute to our continued operational excellence.

 Key Responsibilities For The Umfolozi Sugar Mill Artisan Turner Vacancies

As an Artisan Turner, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Machining precision spares for pumps, including efficiency rings and shafts.

• Fabricating components like hammer bars for shredders and inter-carrier bronze bearings.

• Operating turning equipment such as boring mills, milling machines, and key seaters.

• Conducting general machining tasks—marking, drilling, and milling of critical factory parts.

• Performing basic machinery maintenance and ensuring tools are used responsibly.

• Handling material logistics such as fetching, carrying, and removing materials as required.

• Operating tools and equipment including bandsaws, grinders, and pedestal machines.

 Required Skills and Experience

To be considered, candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Matric with Maths and Science

• N4 Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent

• Recognized Trade Test Certificate as a Fitter and Turner

• Completed apprenticeship in Mechanical Fitting/Turning

• 5–8 years of hands-on experience in a heavy industrial turning environment

• Strong working knowledge of bandsaw operation, machining tolerances, and part fabrication

• Basic understanding of turbine operation and maintenance

• Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering diagrams

• Basic computer literacy, with experience in planned maintenance systems (e.g., Maximo)
