 Job Overview

We are currently looking for a Diesel Mechanic Assistant to support our qualified artisans in maintaining and repairing a variety of agricultural machinery and heavy-duty vehicles. This role involves working in both workshop and field settings, offering a dynamic environment where your skills will grow across mechanical, electrical, and welding disciplines.

 Key Responsibilities For The VKB Group Semi Skilled Artisan

• Assist in routine and preventative maintenance on agricultural machinery (tractors, loaders, combilifts, skid steers).

• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults on yellow metal machines and washing trailers.

• Carry out minor welding and fabrication tasks.

• Support technicians during field breakdowns and workshop repairs.

• Accurately record faults, services, and repairs.

• Maintain and follow safety protocols and PPE requirements at all times.

• Ensure all machinery and vehicles are maintained to optimal safety and performance standards.

 Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 equivalent.

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar position in a truck or agricultural machinery workshop.

• Basic welding skills and hands-on mechanical experience.

• Sound knowledge of medium to heavy haulage engines (e.g., Cummins, Freightliner, International).

• Familiarity with agricultural machinery and associated systems.

• Basic electrical troubleshooting knowledge.

• Ability to read, write, and record information accurately in English.

• Code 8 Driver’s License required (Code 14 preferred).

• Willingness to work long hours and weekends when necessary.

• Strong knowledge of workshop safety standards and procedures.
