Description
We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Fitter Apprentice to join our team and acquire hands-on experience and training in mechanical fitting, under the guidance of skilled artisans. This apprenticeship offers comprehensive training through a structured program, including 60 days of training at Shukela Training Centre each year.
Key Responsibilities For The Mechanical Fitter Apprentice Job Opportunity
- Learn and Develop Skills: Acquire essential knowledge and hands-on skills in mechanical fitting, working towards achieving competency in the trade.
- Complete Training: Participate in the apprenticeship training plan, attending assessments and relevant training sessions as required.
- Workplace Learning: Perform duties and support maintenance tasks in alignment with the training plan, under supervision of a qualified Artisan.
- Training Record: Maintain an up-to-date training logbook and present it to the employer or training organization when required.
- Safety and Compliance: Follow all Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures, ensuring compliance with regulations, safety guidelines, and workplace policies.
- Scheduled Maintenance and Repairs: Assist in the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of plant equipment such as boilers, compressors, pumps, centrifuges, steam traps, and steam reticulation systems.
- Collaborative Work: Work effectively with other team members to complete maintenance tasks and achieve team objectives.
- Assist with Breakdown Maintenance: Help in addressing breakdowns and carrying out routine maintenance activities across AECI Property Services plants.
- Standby Duty: Support the maintenance fitter during standby duties in the second year of your apprenticeship.
- Tool Usage: Utilize hand tools and power tools efficiently to complete tasks safely and effectively.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum Education: Matric / Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science.
- Required Certification: An N3 qualification (required to apply for the trade test).
- Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is advantageous.
- Basic Knowledge: Understanding of process plants and the importance of maintenance is a plus.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to pass a health clearance to work in a chemical environment.
- Experience: Previous mechanical experience and familiarity with hand and power tools will be beneficial.
