We are looking for a highly skilled Mechanical Maintenance Technician to ensure the continued operation and performance of machinery and plant equipment in a Lean Manufacturing environment. The role requires preventative, autonomous, and breakdown maintenance, ensuring compliance with quality, health, safety, and environmental standards at Nando’s Feitoria.

Minimum Requirements for the Nando’s Maintenance Artisan Job Opportunity
Education & Certification:
Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification with Mathematics and Physical Science
Relevant Technical Qualification (Mechanical Engineering)
Trade Certification (Mechanical/Millwright) / QCTO Trade Certificate (Fitter/Millwright)
Work Experience:
5+ years’ experience in mechanical fault-finding, troubleshooting, and repairs
Experience in hydraulics and pneumatics
3+ years’ experience in food manufacturing (FMCG/Manufacturing) – Essential
Experience with Siemens S5/S7 PLCs (advantageous)
Ability to liaise with suppliers for spare parts and technical specifications
Key Responsibilities
1. Safety & Quality Compliance
Follow all Nando’s Feitoria safety protocols and policies
Ensure full compliance with Food Safety, Health & Safety, and Environmental Regulations
Conduct electrical inspections, safety checks, and report potential hazards
Maintain hygiene and housekeeping standards following 5S and GMP practices
2. Machinery & Equipment Maintenance
Perform preventative and breakdown maintenance on all plant machinery
Inspect, repair, and replace mechanical and electrical components
Conduct fault-finding and circuit testing on production equipment
Ensure all downtime reports and planned maintenance schedules are completed
3. Operational Excellence & Troubleshooting
Report faults and breakdowns to the Maintenance Manager
Participate in shutdown maintenance planning
Maintain and improve production line efficiency through technical solutions
Stop any machine or process that is unsafe or producing substandard quality
4. Project Execution & Process Optimization
Plan and execute routine and emergency maintenance
Use electrical testing and mechanical measuring equipment for troubleshooting
Assist with panel wiring, electrical drawings, and machine upgrades
Ensure proper spare parts inventory management to minimize downtime
5. Continuous Improvement & Team Collaboration
Assist the Maintenance Manager with work scheduling and planning
Support the team with technical expertise and hands-on problem-solving
Conduct training and mentoring for junior technicians
Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and equipment reliability
Technical Skills & Competencies
Mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting expertise
Strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and conveyor systems
Ability to work with PLC systems (Siemens S5/S7) – Advantageous
Experience in food processing equipment and production environments
Understanding of electrical safety and OHS Act compliance
