We are seeking a qualified Electrical Engineer to provide comprehensive electrical engineering maintenance services within our brewery. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure optimal production efficiency by maintaining the integrity and reliability of the brewery’s high-voltage electrical systems (11kV), transformers, switchgear, and other critical installations. The successful candidate will also be responsible for electrical workshop services across the entire site, ensuring operations run smoothly and cost-effectively.
Key Responsibilities for the SAB Utilities Electrician Job Opportunity
1. Safety, Health, and Environmental Compliance
Ensure a safe and healthy working environment by following established procedures and legislation.
Conduct safety inspections and audits to maintain compliance with industry regulations.
Identify and eliminate unsafe practices in maintenance and production processes.
2. Electrical Maintenance & Repairs
Maintain and repair electrical systems, plant equipment, and associated devices.
Plan and prepare maintenance tasks, ensuring minimal production downtime.
Operate and maintain workshop equipment to support plant operations.
Troubleshoot and repair motors, VSDs, transformers, and metering systems.
Perform preventative maintenance on power utilities, including generators, UPS, and Power Factor Correction systems.
3. High-Voltage Electrical Systems & Compliance
Oversee and ensure the reliability of 11kV electrical systems, transformers, and switchgear.
Manage electrical safety standards and ensure compliance with SANS 10142 regulations.
Maintain substations and MCC rooms in accordance with power utility requirements.
Ensure electrical safety management and permit-to-work (PTW) systems are effectively implemented.
Coordinate planned maintenance with municipal electrical departments.
4. Teamwork & Communication
Work collaboratively within engineering and production teams to optimize efficiency.
Communicate effectively to support team development and knowledge-sharing.
Provide training and mentorship to maintenance personnel.
5. Performance Metrics & Customer Satisfaction
Ensure all work orders are completed efficiently, reducing maintenance backlog.
Deliver high-quality maintenance solutions with zero rework, ensuring production continuity.
Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and customers.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Qualifications:
N6 Engineering Studies (Electrical Engineering).
Trade Test Qualification in Electrical Engineering.
ORHVS Certification (Authorized for operating, switching, earthing, and safety testing).
Experience:
3-5 years experience in a packaging, bottling, or FMCG production environment.
1-3 years experience in a technical leadership role within a brewery or similar industry.
Hands-on experience in brewing, utilities, and packaging maintenance workshops.
Experience in substation and MCC room maintenance in a power utility environment.
Technical Knowledge & Skills:
High-voltage systems (11kV), transformers, switchgear, and protection systems.
Motors, VSDs, and Power Factor Correction systems.
Electrical safety management, PTW systems, and regulatory compliance (SANS 10142).
Standby power systems (Generators and UPS).
