Purpose of the Role:

The primary objective of this position is to safely conduct preventative maintenance and repair activities on underground electrical equipment, ensuring operational reliability and compliance with safety regulations. You will play a vital role in minimizing downtime, maximizing equipment performance, and supporting safe production.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ):

• Comply with all SHEQ requirements and participate in toolbox talks.

• Ensure adherence to Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), environmental regulations, and lock-out procedures.

• Identify, assess, and respond to electrical risks in underground environments.

Customer Service:

• Ensure equipment is handed over in optimal working condition.

• Execute tasks only when authorized through proper documentation (e.g., work order).

• Deliver excellent service with a focus on customer satisfaction and operational reliability.

Technical & Operational Duties:

• Perform planned and unplanned electrical maintenance tasks as per work orders and task lists.

• Conduct fault-finding, live testing, and root cause analysis on high-voltage underground equipment.

• Capture and confirm work order history and time data in SAP.

• Issue and manage lock-out documents and ensure isolation procedures are followed.

• Replace damaged rotables and ensure proper handling to laydown areas.

Breakdowns & Interventions:

• Respond quickly and safely to electrical breakdowns and restore operations with minimal downtime.

• Provide detailed feedback and suggest improvements to maintenance processes.

• Support other trades with electrical lock-outs as required.

Minimum Requirements For The Samancor Maintenance Artisan Elecrician

• Grade 12 / N2 Certificate

• Section 13 Trade Test Certificate (Electrical)

• QCTO Trade Certificate (Section 26D)

• Minimum 3 years of underground mining electrical experience

• Must meet medical fitness standards for underground work
