Sappi is looking for a qualified and motivated Artisan Assistant to support maintenance operations at our Ngodwana Mill. This full-time role is perfect for a hands-on individual eager to grow within the maintenance and engineering field, supporting artisans with both basic and complex maintenance tasks. Your contribution will directly impact equipment performance, safety, and overall plant productivity.
Job Purpose
As an Artisan Assistant, you will play a critical role in assisting with mechanical, electrical, or service-related maintenance work. Your primary responsibility is to ensure efficient support for artisans during breakdowns, preventative maintenance, and shutdown projects — all while complying with workplace safety and operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities For The Sappi Artisan Assistant Job Opportunity

Assist with maintenance, repair, and overhaul of machinery and plant equipment in the services workshop

Safely handle and dispose of waste according to legal and environmental standards

Support the artisan team in executing mechanical and electrical breakdown maintenance

Help isolate machinery and equipment following the Sappi lock-out procedure (training and licensing provided)

Transport tools and equipment safely within the workplace

Use tools appropriately and ensure they are well-maintained and stored

Work safely and promote good housekeeping and safety practices across the section

Operate mobile machinery as needed (training/licensing available)
Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science, OR an N3 Engineering Science (NQF Level 4)

Valid driver’s license

Experience with air conditioning maintenance and repair will be an added advantage

Physically fit and willing to work in industrial environments

Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and following technical processes
