Purpose of the Job:
We are looking for a skilled Electrical Artisan to join our team, providing effective equipment maintenance and ensuring reliability in the plant operations. In this role, you will support production by maintaining plant and equipment sustainability while adhering to established procedures and safety standards. You will utilise available resources to ensure operational stability and performance.
Key Accountabilities for the Sasol Artisan Electrician

Install, connect, and commission electrical equipment, including measuring instruments and relevant control devices, ensuring proper setup and functionality.

Proactively identify potential equipment failures in advance and implement preventive measures.

Perform high-level fault finding, repair, and inspections on electrical systems such as switchgear, control systems, transformers, DC Systems, cables, earthing systems, protection systems, motors, UPS, VDS (WEG, ABB, Siemens), and classified equipment.

Maintain personal safety and ensure the safety of others according to company procedures and safety regulations.

Demonstrate a working knowledge of Simocode overloads, Profibus installations, and the ability to perform maintenance and fault-finding on these systems.

Read, interpret, and work with engineering drawings for electrical installations and maintenance.

Perform standby duties as required to ensure continuous plant operations.

Utilise SAP (CMMS) for managing maintenance tasks and tracking work orders.

Participate in Risk Assessments (HIRA) and HAZOPs to identify and mitigate potential hazards in the workplace.

Coach and mentor learners and junior artisans, sharing expertise and knowledge in the field.

Provide switching and electrical distribution expertise to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.
Formal Education & Qualifications:

Grade 12 with N3 Electrical qualification (Maths and Science as subjects).

NQF Level 4 Electrical Trade Test certification.

Valid driver’s license.
Work Experience:
-
At least 4 years of relevant experience as an Electrical Artisan in the chemical industry.

Extensive experience with classified electrical equipment.

Wireman’s license is an advantage.

Experience with switching, electrical distribution, and maintenance of electrical systems.
Skills & Competencies:

Proficient in fault finding, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems.

Strong understanding of electrical safety standards and procedures.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high-pressure environment.

Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
