We are currently seeking a qualified Electrician to join our high-performance engineering team in an underground coal mining environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe maintenance, inspection, and repair of electrical equipment to ensure optimal equipment reliability and technical compliance.

This position requires an individual with strong technical capabilities, a commitment to health and safety, and the ability to work under pressure in a demanding production environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform electrical repairs and maintenance to ensure equipment uptime and safety

• Conduct fault-finding and defect repairs independently

• Ensure engineering compliance in line with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and internal standards

• Complete and maintain detailed records via checklists and job cards

• Conduct and document Risk Assessments (RA) before any task execution

• Maintain housekeeping in the area of responsibility

• Participate in shift work, overtime, and standby duties as needed

• Support continuous improvement in safety and productivity

Minimum Requirements For The Seriti Artisan Electrician Job Opportunity

Education & Trade

• Recognized Electrical Trade Test Certificate

• Grade 12 with Mathematics (Not Mathematical Literacy) and Physical Science, minimum E symbol

• N2 Certificate with at least 4 trade-related subjects as per MQA guidelines

Technical Knowledge

• Strong understanding of MHSA, safety protocols, and mining regulations

• Knowledge of electrical systems, tools, equipment and troubleshooting

• Experience with Gas Testing and Flame Proofing

• Must be computer literate, and fluent in spoken and written English

• Valid K53 driver’s license and own transport

• Valid or obtainable Certificate of Fitness

Preferred (Advantageous) Qualifications & Experience

• 2+ years post-trade experience as an Electrician in underground coal mining

• HT Switching Certificate

• Working knowledge of:

  • HT Reticulation diagrams

  • Gate End Box, Genwest/Dimako systems

  • PLC Systems (Programmable Logic Controllers)

  • Water pumps, Jet fans, Guduza, Peflo, Microload

• Completion of a Safety & Risk Management Course
