Are you a hands-on problem solver with a passion for maintenance and technical support?
We are seeking a Technical Assistant to join our dynamic team and play a crucial role in maintaining the operational integrity of our facilities and equipment. This position reports directly to the Technical Manager and provides vital support to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient functioning of our buildings and technical infrastructure.


Purpose of the Role

The Technical Assistant supports the technical and maintenance team with daily tasks, preventive inspections, and emergency repairs. This role includes a broad range of duties, from hands-on maintenance work to driving support and safety compliance. The ideal candidate will be reliable, proactive, and have a strong technical aptitude for property or building maintenance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct plant and facility inspections; report hazards or unsafe conditions to the Technical Manager.

  • Respond to maintenance requests promptly and professionally across facilities.

  • Ensure that all workspaces and maintenance areas remain clean, orderly, and compliant with safety standards.

  • Identify and escalate maintenance risks or faults that require further intervention.

  • Drive to collect parts or equipment, and tow diesel bowsers to refill generators as needed.

  • Comply with all internal policies, procedures, and legal safety requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

  • Participate in safety training programs, meetings, and workshops as scheduled.

  • Assist with record-keeping for repairs, defects, and materials used.

  • Provide after-hours emergency assistance and be available for standby duty as required.

  • Perform additional ad-hoc duties in support of the technical team.


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12/Matric – highly advantageous.

  • OHS and maintenance-related certifications – advantageous.

  • At least 1 year of experience in a property or facilities maintenance role, with hands-on exposure to:

    • Mechanical and electrical systems

    • Plumbing and structural repairs

    • HVAC and air conditioning systems

    • Maintenance in office parks, shopping centres, or commercial buildings


Skills and Competencies

  • Valid Code EB driver’s license – essential

  • Willingness and ability to travel with short notice – essential

  • Basic proficiency in MS Office 365, especially Excel – beneficial

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently with a high level of accountability

  • Good understanding of safety protocols and compliance
