Lindsay Saker VW Midrand is offering a CBMT (Competency-Based Modular Training) Apprenticeship, designed to provide hands-on experience and theoretical education for individuals aspiring to become qualified motor vehicle mechanics. This accredited training program, in collaboration with Motus Technical Training Academy (MTTA) and merSETA, combines on-the-job training (OJT) with structured classroom instruction to ensure a well-rounded learning experience.

Training Program Structure

The CBMT Apprenticeship consists of four training levels (Levels 1 – 4) over a 4-year contract. The training includes:

 

On-the-job training at Lindsay Saker VW Midrand’s Service Department, aligned with the apprentice’s competency level.

Classroom training at MTTA for five days every five weeks.

Distance learning through CDX, providing interactive demonstrations, quizzes, tutorials, and practical exercises at work and home.

Computer-based testing & examinations.

Practical competency assessments to evaluate skills.

Portfolio of Evidence – Apprentices must document their work and training progress.

MIBCO compliance – All apprentices are registered and paid according to MIBCO apprenticeship wage guidelines.

Key Responsibilities – What You Will Learn & Do

As an Apprentice Motor Vehicle Mechanic, you will:

 

Work alongside a qualified technician to learn vehicle maintenance and repair techniques.

Assist in performing routine services, diagnosing faults, and repairing vehicles.

Gain practical experience in inspecting, maintaining, and repairing different vehicle components.

Complete and submit your portfolio of evidence as required for the CBMT program.

Follow industry safety standards and workshop procedures.

Develop a customer-focused approach while learning essential teamwork skills.

Who Can Apply? Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

To qualify for the CBMT Apprenticeship, candidates must meet the following criteria:

 

Matric certificate with Mathematics and Physical Science.

Alternatively, N2 qualification with Mathematics, Engineering Science, and English (minimum 50%).

Valid driver’s license.

Basic computer literacy.

Successful completion of a mechanical insight test.

Must pass standard background checks and a medical assessment for fitness to work.

Candidates who pass the initial screening will undergo:

Psychometric assessment to evaluate aptitude.

Face-to-face interview with the selection panel.
