Key Responsibilities
As a Trainee Assistant, you will assist with various operational duties, including:
Locomotive Operations
- Assist with locomotive shunting movements
- Prepare locomotives for train crews
- Deliver locomotives for operational use
- Position locomotives according to operational requirements
- Assist maintenance personnel where required
Safety Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe working environment
- Identify unsafe conditions on locomotives, railway tracks and overhead equipment
- Comply with railway operating procedures
- Follow all safety legislation and Transnet operational policies
- Assist in safeguarding parked locomotives
Coupling and Shunting Duties
- Couple and uncouple locomotives
- Connect air brake systems
- Connect jumper cables
- Operate railway points according to standard operating procedures

Fueling Operations
- Inspect locomotive fuel levels
- Fuel diesel locomotives
- Refill locomotive sand equipment where required
Housekeeping

Minimum Requirements
