Western Cape Government Electrical Artisan Assistant

The Western Cape Government is inviting suitably qualified candidates to explore an opportunity as an Electrical Artisan Assistant. This position is suited to an individual with basic electrical and mechanical knowledge who has experience in general electrical work and is willing to support artisans with maintenance, repairs and installation projects.

The successful candidate will assist with maintaining hospital plant, equipment and buildings, keeping work areas safe and clean, and ensuring that repair activities are properly recorded. Applicants should be prepared to work under pressure and perform overtime when required.

Minimum Educational Qualification

Applicants must have Grade 10 or an equivalent qualification.

Candidates should also have appropriate experience in general electrical work, as specified in the vacancy requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities For Western Cape Government Electrical Artisan Assistant

The Electrical Artisan Assistant will support artisans and maintenance teams with various electrical and general maintenance activities within the hospital environment.

Key duties include:

• Assisting artisans with maintenance, repairs and installation projects involving hospital plant, equipment and buildings.
• Helping maintain plant rooms, equipment and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
• Completing and returning repair requisitions.
• Keeping records of repairs carried out.
• Assisting with ordering and controlling workshop materials and tools.
• Supporting the training and development of staff.
• Cleaning areas after maintenance and repair work has been completed.
• Following applicable occupational health and safety requirements.

Experience and Skills Required

The advertised requirements include appropriate experience in general electrical work. Applicants should also demonstrate the following competencies:

• Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Good communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Understanding of occupational health and safety requirements.
• Adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993, and its relevant regulations.
