Bidvest Tank Terminals Engineering Apprenticeships 2027

Are you a young South African interested in building a career in engineering, maintenance or industrial operations? An apprenticeship can provide an important pathway into a skilled trade by combining formal technical education with practical workplace experience.

Bidvest Tank Terminals (BTT) is inviting applications for its 2027 Engineering Apprenticeship Programme in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. The programme offers training opportunities in three technical trades: Millwright, Mechanical Fitter and Boilermaker.

Successful applicants will participate in a structured 36-month programme consisting of facilitated theoretical training and practical workplace experience at Bidvest Tank Terminals. The apprenticeship will conclude with a trade test, providing learners with an opportunity to demonstrate their occupational competence.

This opportunity is suited to young South Africans who have completed Matric with Mathematics and Physical Science and are interested in developing practical engineering skills within an industrial chemical plant environment.

About the Bidvest Tank Terminals Apprenticeship Programme

The Bidvest Tank Terminals Engineering Apprenticeship Programme is designed to develop young people into qualified artisans through structured technical training and practical workplace exposure.

The programme combines theoretical instruction at an accredited training centre with experiential learning at Bidvest Tank Terminals (BTT).

Over the 36-month period, apprentices will have the opportunity to develop trade-related knowledge and practical competencies in their selected occupational fields.

The programme is available in three trades:

1. Millwright Apprenticeship

This trade is suitable for individuals interested in both mechanical and electrical engineering systems.

2. Mechanical Fitter Apprenticeship

Mechanical Fitters work with industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. Their technical work involves assembling, installing, maintaining and repairing mechanical components and systems.

This trade is suited to candidates who enjoy working with machinery, mechanical components and industrial maintenance.

3. Boilermaker Apprenticeship

Boilermakers work with metal structures, plates, pipes and other fabricated components used in industrial operations.

The trade involves developing skills in metal fabrication, fitting, cutting, welding and assembling metal structures and equipment.

Thabang Maimela’s Tip

If you are applying for this apprenticeship, pay particular attention to your Mathematics and Physical Science results. These subjects are important foundations for technical trades such as Millwright, Mechanical Fitter and Boilermaker.

Make sure your CV clearly identifies the trade you are interested in and highlights any relevant technical exposure, practical projects or engineering-related experience.

If you have participated in school technical subjects, workshop activities or other practical projects, include them where relevant. Most importantly, ensure that your Matric certificate and South African identity documentation are ready when preparing your application.

Remember that an apprenticeship is a long-term commitment. Be prepared to participate in both classroom-based learning and practical workplace training throughout the 36-month programme.

Closing Date: 2026/11/13
