The Semi Skilled Fitter will be responsible for carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance activities on mechanical systems. This includes identifying faults, diagnosing problems, and performing repairs using approved methods and industry-standard tools.
You will be required to install and assemble various mechanical components such as pipes, fittings, and equipment parts. This may involve working with different materials and systems, including water reticulation systems, compressed air systems, and HVAC components.
The role also includes performing technical tasks such as welding, brazing, soldering, and threading, depending on the nature of the repair or installation. You will be expected to ensure that all work is completed accurately and efficiently to minimize downtime and maintain system reliability.
Testing and inspection of systems form a critical part of this role. You will conduct pressure testing, hydrostatic testing, and other forms of system verification to ensure that installations and repairs meet required standards and are safe for operation.
In addition, you will need to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and building layouts to understand system configurations and execute work accordingly. Attention to detail is essential to ensure that all components are installed and aligned correctly.
Maintaining equipment cleanliness and replacing worn or damaged parts is also part of your daily responsibilities. You will be required to keep tools and work areas organized, ensuring that everything is maintained in good working condition.
Administrative duties include completing job cards, recording maintenance activities, and providing feedback on progress, issues, and completed tasks. Accurate documentation is important for tracking performance and ensuring accountability.
Safety and compliance are central to this role. You will be expected to ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with relevant safety regulations, company policies, and standard operating procedures.
This includes conducting inspections of work areas to identify potential hazards, ensuring that all safety precautions are in place before starting any task, and using personal protective equipment correctly at all times.
Proper handling and storage of tools, materials, and equipment is required to prevent accidents and maintain a safe working environment. You will also be responsible for completing inspection registers and maintaining up-to-date documentation related to safety and maintenance activities.
