Candidates must have completed Grade 12 (Matric), which serves as the foundational academic requirement. In addition, a full N2 Certificate with relevant electrical trade theory subjects is required, demonstrating a solid understanding of electrical principles and systems.
A recognized Electrical Trade Certificate is mandatory. This confirms that the candidate has completed formal training and has been assessed as competent in their trade. Furthermore, applicants must have completed a Portfolio of Evidence (POE) for a Section 26D Trade Certificate, which verifies practical experience and competency in real-world applications.

Applicants should have a minimum of one year post trade test experience working as an Electrician in a heavy industry environment. Candidates must have hands-on experience with electrical reticulation systems, specifically 33/11kV and 525V systems. This indicates the ability to work with medium to high-voltage infrastructure, which is a critical aspect of this role.
A strong awareness of Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) standards is essential. The ability to identify hazards, follow safety procedures, and contribute to a safe working environment is a core requirement for this position.

The successful candidate will report to the Artisan Coordinator and will be responsible for a wide range of duties related to electrical maintenance and plant operations.
The primary responsibility is the installation, inspection, and maintenance of all electrical equipment on site. This includes diagnosing faults, performing repairs, and ensuring that all systems are functioning efficiently and safely.
The Artisan Electrician will be required to ensure full compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Compliance (HSEC) standards. This includes following all safety procedures, using appropriate personal protective equipment, and contributing to a culture of safety within the workplace.
Another key responsibility is managing and updating maintenance activities through SAP PM (Plant Maintenance) and MM (Materials Management) systems. Accurate documentation and tracking of work orders are essential for maintaining operational efficiency and accountability.
The role also involves supporting engineering teams with maintenance-related tasks, assisting with troubleshooting, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. This may include identifying areas where systems can be optimized to improve performance and reduce downtime.
Maintaining plant availability is a critical objective. The Artisan Electrician will participate in planned maintenance schedules, shutdowns, and preventative maintenance programs to ensure that equipment remains in optimal condition.
Candidates must be prepared to work overtime when required, as well as perform standby duties. The role may also require acting in a higher position when necessary, demonstrating leadership, initiative, and the ability to take on additional responsibilities.
