Job Overview

RCL Foods is looking for a driven, highly energized Mechanic Assistant to join our Transport and Fleet team in Kokstad. The Mechanic Assistant will play a key role in maintaining our local delivery fleet, ensuring that vehicles are serviced, maintained, and repaired efficiently. Reporting to the Transport Manager, the Mechanic Assistant will work closely with the lead mechanic to ensure that the fleet operates safely and efficiently. This role involves a combination of preventive maintenance, routine servicing, and after-hours breakdown support.

Minimum Requirements

Education & Qualifications:

• Matric certificate is required
• Diesel Mechanic qualification is advantageous

Experience & Training:

• 2–3 years’ experience in an FMCG workshop or transport maintenance environment
• Hands-on experience with FAW, Fuso, Hino, and Nissan trucks is a strong advantage
• Knowledge of fleet maintenance systems and preventive servicing procedures

Key Duties & Responsibilities For Diesel Mechanic Assistant Job Opportunity

Fleet Maintenance & Vehicle Servicing:

• Assist the lead mechanic with routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs of delivery vehicles
• Conduct preventive maintenance according to the workshop schedule to minimize breakdowns
• Respond efficiently to after-hours breakdowns to reduce vehicle downtime
• Ensure proper handling of mechanical and electronic equipment, including gauges, tools, and diagnostic devices
• Identify and report potential vehicle issues before they escalate

Workshop Operations & Safety:

• Maintain a clean and organized workshop according to HSEMS standards
• Dispose of waste materials in designated areas safely and according to company policy
• Follow instructions from the lead mechanic and perform assigned tasks safely and efficiently
• Develop technical knowledge and safety awareness as a Mechanic Assistant
• Carry out all work activities in a safe and controlled manner, adhering to company procedures

Teamwork & Professionalism:

• Support the lead mechanic and other team members when needed
• Maintain good housekeeping practices at the workshop and accommodation
• Demonstrate initiative, assertiveness, and proactivity in all work tasks
