Role Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to support the receiving, storing, issuing, and control of stock and assets within the healthcare facility. The role ensures that inventory processes are followed correctly, stock levels are maintained, and all transactions are properly recorded.

This position is essential in maintaining a well-functioning supply chain system, ensuring that critical resources are always available where and when they are needed.

Key Responsibilities For Stores Assistant | Gauteng Department Of Health

The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of operational duties, including:

Stock Receiving and Collection

• Collect stock from suppliers or designated collection points
• Verify received items against delivery notes or invoices
• Report damaged, missing, or incorrect items to supervisors

Stock Storage and Warehouse Management

• Store stock safely and systematically in designated storage areas
• Ensure proper labeling and organization of all stock items
• Maintain cleanliness, order, and hygiene within the warehouse environment
• Follow safety procedures when handling stock and equipment

Distribution of Stock and Assets

• Issue and distribute stock and assets to end-users and departments
• Ensure that all issued items are recorded accurately
• Deliver items in a timely and efficient manner to avoid operational delays

Inventory Control and Stock Rotation

• Assist with scheduled stock takes and inventory counts
• Implement stock rotation methods such as:
  • FIFO (First In, First Out) to reduce wastage
  • FEFO (First Expiry, First Out) for perishable or time-sensitive items
• Monitor stock levels and report shortages, damages, or discrepancies

Record Keeping and Documentation

• Maintain accurate records of all stock movements (incoming and outgoing)
• Ensure all documentation is properly completed and filed
• Assist in maintaining inventory systems and stock registers

General Duties and Support

• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor
• Assist with general warehouse duties including lifting, packing, and organizing
• Support other departments when required
• Work collaboratively with team members to ensure efficient workflow

Minimum Requirements

• ABET qualification or equivalent
• Basic literacy and numeracy skills (ability to read, write, and perform basic calculations)
