The Retail Sales Learnership Programme offers motivated individuals the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience within a retail environment through cross-training on both the sales floor and the service desk. This programme is designed to develop versatile retail professionals who are capable of delivering excellent customer service while supporting core retail operations.
Learners will work directly with customers and merchandise, gaining exposure to sales, merchandising, stock control, and point-of-sale operations. The learnership combines workplace experience with structured learning, assessments, and the completion of logbooks to ensure learners develop the knowledge and competence required to function effectively as cross-trained Sales Consultants.
The primary purpose of this learnership is to equip individuals with essential retail skills and workplace experience that improve employability within the retail and fashion industry. The programme focuses on developing customer service excellence, sales capability, operational discipline, and a strong understanding of retail best practices.
Successful completion of the programme requires commitment, reliability, and the ability to demonstrate competence through assessments and practical application.
Learners enrolled in the programme will be required to:
Complete a minimum of 120 working hours
Participate in structured learning and workplace activities
Accurately complete logbooks and learning documentation
Prepare for and successfully complete assessments
Demonstrate competence across sales floor and service desk functions
The learnership requires consistent attendance, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn in a customer-facing environment.
Learners appointed to the programme will be expected to perform the following duties:
Assist customers with locating merchandise and making informed purchasing decisions
Deliver friendly, professional, and helpful customer service at all times
Build positive relationships with customers to enhance their in-store experience
Support customer queries and service desk activities
Merchandise the store in accordance with MBP (Merchandising Best Practice) principles
Ensure displays are neat, attractive, and aligned with store standards
Support daily store operations to ensure a clean, organised, and welcoming environment
Process customer payments and purchases accurately using the Point of Sale (POS) system
Assist with opening new customer accounts where applicable
Handle basic cash and transaction-related responsibilities in line with procedures
Assist in maintaining accurate stock levels
Support efforts to control and reduce stock losses
Follow security procedures to protect stock, customers, and staff
Learn and build knowledge related to retail systems, products, and processes
Prepare for and participate in required assessments
Complete logbooks, assignments, and documentation accurately and on time
Adhere to company policies, procedures, and codes of conduct
Maintain customer safety and security within the store

Grade 10 qualification
