This learnership programme provides a unique opportunity for aspiring artisans to gain practical training, industry knowledge, and valuable work experience within the mining sector.
The Engineering Learnership Programme (18.2 – Unemployed) is designed to develop future artisans through a structured combination of technical training and workplace experience.
Participants will receive both classroom-based learning and hands-on training, allowing them to build strong technical foundations while gaining real exposure to engineering operations in the mining industry.
Successful candidates will be placed at the Rustenburg Process operations in Rustenburg.
Boilermaker Learnership (2 Positions)
The learnership programme provides a structured pathway to becoming a qualified artisan.
Participants will receive:
Structured off-the-job training focused on theoretical knowledge and technical skills
Workplace-based practical training within real mining and engineering environments
Exposure to industrial equipment and engineering systems
Mentorship from experienced professionals and artisans
Development of industry-relevant technical and safety skills
Upon successful completion of the programme, learners will obtain a nationally recognised Artisan qualification, which can open doors to careers in mining, engineering, construction, and heavy industry.
The Boilermaker Learnership focuses on training individuals to work with metal structures, heavy machinery, and industrial steel components commonly used in mining operations.
Participants will develop skills related to:
Fabricating and assembling metal structures
Welding and structural steelwork
Interpreting technical drawings and blueprints
Maintenance and repair of metal equipment
Working with industrial tools and fabrication machinery
Following strict workplace safety procedures
Boilermakers play a critical role in maintaining the structural and mechanical components used in mining plants, processing facilities, and heavy engineering operations.
Applicants must meet one of the following academic requirements in order to be considered for the programme.
Grade 12 (Matric) with the following subjects:
Mathematics (Mathematics Literacy will not be accepted)
Physical Science
English
All subjects must be passed with a minimum of 40%.
Applicants may also qualify with N2 or higher provided that the following subjects are included:
Plating and Structural Steelwork or Welders Theory
Plating Structural and Steelwork Drawings
Mathematics
Engineering Science
NCV Level 4 in an appropriate trade
All subjects must be passed with a minimum of 40%

Certified copies of all relevant qualifications
A copy of a valid South African ID document
Proof of residence for applicants from host communities
Proof of residence must be stamped by the relevant tribal authority or municipality.
