For thousands of South African university and university of technology students, completing the academic component of a qualification is only half the journey. Many engineering and science qualifications require Work Integrated Learning (WIL) before students can graduate, yet securing workplace placement remains one of the biggest challenges. Without practical industry exposure, many talented students are unable to complete their qualifications despite successfully finishing their theoretical studies.

The Glencore P1 & P2 Workplace Experience Programme 2026 aims to bridge that gap by offering eligible students the opportunity to gain practical workplace experience at Rhovan PSV. This programme allows students to apply their classroom knowledge in a real mining and processing environment while meeting the practical requirements needed to graduate.

In South Africa, the company has operations spanning coal, ferroalloys, chrome and vanadium, providing employment opportunities while investing in skills development through graduate, bursary and workplace experience programmes.

The successful candidates will join a structured Work Integrated Learning programme in partnership with the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA). During the programme, participants will be expected to:

  • Gain practical workplace experience in their qualification discipline
  • Work according to safe work practices
  • Comply with the company’s Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) systems
  • Adhere to company policies, standards and legal requirements
  • Support the implementation of operational and management decisions

Fields of Study

Applications are invited from students studying towards qualifications in:

  • Have Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Be studying towards a qualification in one of the listed disciplines
  • Have completed the S4 theoretical component of their qualification

Why Choose a Workplace Experience Programme?

Workplace Experience or P1 & P2 training is a critical step for many engineering and technical qualifications in South Africa. Besides meeting graduation requirements, students gain practical exposure to industrial processes, workplace safety, professional communication and problem-solving skills that employers value when recruiting graduates.

Completing your practical training with a globally recognised mining company like Glencore can significantly strengthen your CV and improve your employment prospects after graduation.

Thabang Maimela’s Tip

Competition for engineering workplace experience programmes is extremely high because thousands of students require WIL before graduating. Apply as early as possible, include your academic record and institutional completion letter, and ensure your CV clearly states that you have completed your S4 theory and require practical training to graduate. A complete application often stands out from incomplete submissions.

How to Apply

Interested applicants should submit their applications through Glencore’s official careers portal before the closing date.

Before applying, ensure you have:

  • An updated CV
  • Certified copy of your ID
  • Certified copy of your Grade 12 certificate
  • Academic transcript
  • Institutional completion letter confirming your WIL requirement
  • Any additional supporting documents requested during the application process
